Water treatment and the recycling and re-use of water is increasingly important after the anaerobic digestion (AD) of wastes.
These installations typically process food wastes, agricultural slurries and maize which are digested in the AD process to produce valuable biogas, green power, green heat, fertiliser and waste digestate for recycling purposes.
Following solids removal, the final step of the digestate treatment process involves Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) systems which combine a biological purification process and sludge separation by means of hollow fibre membranes. Capacities from 10 to 250 m³ per hour are available, depending on the requirement.
This often results in considerable increases in both capacity and the quality of the discharged water. After treatment, the effluent can often be reused, recycled or disposed of to a water course.
