Landfill leachates can cause pollution and odour problems as they contain high concentrations of ammonia, sulphides and chlorides and have a high Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).

Disposal to drain is often costly and problematic - storage in lagoons can take up valuable space and bring its own health and safety issues.

MSE Systems’ purpose-built wastewater treatment plants utilising Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology enable landfill sites to dispose of treated leachate into sewer or even river/water course, depending upon the location and treatment deployed.

In many cases, the use of Mitsubishi hollow fibre membranes means the treated water is clean enough to also be re-used or recycled for irrigation, dust suppression and washing applications.

Where space is at a premium, containerised systems are also available for quick and easy installations at landfill sites.
