Plastic Recycling

All plastic waste bound for recycling must be clean and contaminant free before it can be processed.

The recycling of plastics therefore often requires large amounts of water to remove these contaminants, thereby creating a need for water recirculation and cleaning on a closed loop.

The majority of the contaminants in the plastics recycling process come in the form of suspended solids and a high Chemical Oxygen Demand from dissolved organics, sugars and starches. This means that a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system is often implemented to remove these as a sludge.

The water can then be further treated by Ultra Filtration (UF), Micro Filtration (MF), and Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) technology to produce a cleaned water that can be recycled and reused in the plastics recycling process, reducing both financial and environmental costs.
