Membrane Bio Reactors

Membrane Bio Reactors

Membrane Bio Reactors (MBR) combine activated sludge treatment with a membrane liquid-solid separation process. The membrane component uses low pressure Micro Filtration (MF) or Ultra-Filtration (UF) membranes and eliminates the need for clarification and tertiary filtration.

The reduction of processes can save your water treatment system time and money.

MBRs are widely used for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. When used with domestic wastewater, MBR processes can produce effluent of high quality enough to be discharged to coastal, surface or brackish waterways or to be reclaimed for urban irrigation.

The membranes are typically immersed in the aeration tank; however some applications utilise a separate membrane tank. One of the key benefits of an MBR system is that it effectively overcomes the limitations associated with poor settling of sludge in Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) processes.

MSE Systems utilises genuine Mitsubishi hollow fibre membranes to provide robust wastewater treatment plants that are both highly efficient and easy to operate.

Capacities from 4 to 400 m3/hr can be accommodated. MBR treatment plants are compact in nature and can be designed to be incorporated into many site situations.

With guaranteed reductions in Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and suspended solids, our MBR systems provide an instant saving and short payback times on most water company bills which charge on the mogden formula.
